3MW Proposal

My idea is to inform people of the details of a mental disorder and highlight it's effects on the sufferer's life. I decided to choose Schizophrenia as my focal point, as I know many people with the disorder and feel it would enlighten others as there are many misconceptions.
Identify the genre and format of the concept, i.e., how will it be presented? (Format; expository, interactive, observational, performative, reflexive. Genre; docudrama, docusoap, infotainment, ‘reality’ TV, educational, wildlife, special interest, makeover).

It will be displayed in an expository format of an educational or special interest genre. This is because my documentary deals with facts and the subject matter will have a lot of information that people would not have had prior knowledge of unless they have had experience with the disorder personally or are close to someone with the disorder.

The primary audience would be people with interests rooted in schizophrenia and other mental disorders, such as Psychology students and enthusiasts. A secondary audience would be classes where the documentary would be used as an educational tool.

The aim of the documentary is to enlighten people to the details of Schizophrenia and the affects it has upon the lives of sufferers.

Where will you need to film? Will you need to travel to a location / various locations?
I plan to interview in the studio at East Norfolk Sixth Form College, as I can utilise the equipment available there with no additional costs.

I will need people willing to be interviewed about Schizophrenia; for example, doctors, psycologists and sufferers of the illness. No other crew are required.

Some sample questions that I could ask include:
"What is Schiizophrenia?"
"How does this illness affect your everyday life?"
"Do you know other people with this illness?"
"Do you have any advise to people who have friends or family with Schizophrenia?"

I will not need any props or costumes for this as the interviewees will be wearing their everyday clothes and I will not be on camera. The pieces of equipment that I am likely to need will be lighting and chairs for the interviewee and I. A tripod will be needed to provide a regular and steady camera angle. I will also need a camera and possibly a microphone for clear, understandable and good quality sound.
